Fortunately, the terrified driver was able to control the train on tracks near Ridley Lane.

The British Transport Police have just released CCTV photos from the incident which happened at 5.20pm on Wednesday 14 August.

Images show three youths standing on the tracks with the concrete in their hands.

Police are no appealing to the public for help in identifying the boys, believing may have information that can help with the investigation.

It is the sixth time concrete debris has been placed on the tracks in the area.

British Transport Police said: "Placing items on the tracks is extremely hazardous: those involved are endangering their lives and could possibly cause severe damage to trains."

The scenario may have been very different if the train was full of passengers at the time.

If the train had been derailed, many lives may have been lost.

Last week, four drunk teenage yobs trashed a model railway exhibition after breaking into a school gym on a pre-exam night out.

The vandals played football among the trains and smashed displays with hammers in a £30,000 wrecking spree after downing vodka.

And two teenage girls climbed onto train tracks to pose for selfies in a stunt that was branded reckless.
