Jeremy Corbyn’s ‘utterly unachievable’ eco plans would see cars confiscated, meat rationed and no more foreign hols
LABOUR’S eco plans would see cars being confiscated and an end to foreign hols.
Meat may also be rationed under Jeremy Corbyn’s bid to make Britain carbon neutral in just 11 years.
His “utterly unachievable” target was roundly ridiculed after party conference delegates yesterday backed going net-zero by 2030.
The GMB union, one of Labour’s biggest donors, said the move would mean huge job losses, environmentally-unfriendly cars being seized and families limited to just one flight every five years.
Earlier this year then PM Theresa May pledged Britain would be net-zero by 2050 by slashing greenhouse gases — despite warnings it could cost the economy £1trillion.
NO CREDIBILITY
Experts said getting there 20 years sooner would cost much more.
Even Greenpeace said it would be “extremely difficult” to achieve.
GMB’s Neil Derrick was booed as he told conference there was no “credible plan”.
He reckoned: “The implications would be swingeing and it would affect everyone.
“It would require the confiscation of all petrol-fuelled cars still on the road, the state rationing of meat, limiting families to one foreign flight every five years, the closure of whole industries.”

Earlier GMB general secretary Tim Roache added: “It’s frankly not credible.”
But Shadow Business Secretary Rebecca Long-Bailey insisted ministers had to do “significantly” more to cut emissions.
Last night she pledged £60billion for electric car loans and £12billion to invest in 36 state-controlled offshore wind farms.
