Tory Remainers prep No Confidence letters in the PM as Britain edges towards a No Deal Brexit
TORY ‘Remainers’ are preparing No Confidence letters in Theresa May as the UK edges towards a No Deal, the Sun can reveal.
A furious senior Tory last night stormed “it’s now clear the Prime Minister is the problem” and it was time for a change in No 10.
Another - who asked not to be named - said backbenchers were actively planning what to do as “we are staring into the abyss”.
Until now it has been the Eurosceptic side of the Tory party that has submitted No Confidence letters in a bid to topple the PM – furious at her for a ‘sell out’ on Brexit.
Today’s revelations that PRO-EU Tories are now minded to follow suit will terrify party big wigs.
Just 48 letters are needed from Tory MPs to trigger a leadership election.
It comes after the resignation of Transport Minister Jo Johnson on Friday - who quit the Government and called for a second Referendum.
“There’s a lot of talking behind the scenes about how we reset,” one of the MPs told The Sun.
“People are seriously mulling over whether to put letters in.”
They claimed backbenchers were eyeing a number of suitable ‘caretaker’ leaders who could ‘reset’ Brexit talks.
Mogg OK for delay
BREXIT champion Jacob Rees-Mogg yesterday backed a “No Deal Plus” compromise first revealed in The Sun on Saturday.
Under the plan Britain would leave the EU without a deal on March 29 — but pay £20billion to keep ties as they are until December 2020.
It would give time to either plan for a No Deal or negotiate a new trading relationship.
Mr Rees-Mogg said: “It would cost us money, but it would finally dispel the ‘crash out’ Project Fear nightmare scenarios.”

And they believed ex-Brexit Secretary David Davis could be persuaded to pursue a Norway style Brexit as a short-term option if given the job.
Another said: “I’m seriously considering whether to put in a letter and I know a number of people on my side feel the same.
“Having a new leader would give someone a mandate – just not in the party but critically, in the Cabinet.”
Separately yesterday, aspiring backbencher Tom Tugendhat reiterated he would consider running “for my party leadership at some point”.
And he risked the wrath of the whips by admitting Theresa May’s Government appeared “worn out” because of all the focus on Brexit.
