Spice Girls back Theresa May saying she’s ‘doing the best she can’ – and call on Britain to unite after Brexit

THE Spice Girls today backed Theresa May - saying the PM is "a woman doing the best she can".

The legendary girl band spoke out in favour of Mrs May pointing out that she is faced with an incredibly tough job.

And they all called on Brits to unite after Brexit and "stop the divisiveness".

The Spice Girls, who have reunited for a tour next year, made their comments to The Sun's Dan Wootton on ITV's Lorraine this morning.

Asked what they think about Mrs May, Mel C joked: "She's a great dancer!"

But striking a more serious note, Geri added: "You know what, we should support each other whatever it is. You don't have to agree on politics, it's bigger than that.

"You can just support a woman, doing the best she can. Everyone's politically different and that's OK. Not an easy position - can you imagine being that? Not easy."

When the band were grilled on Brexit they were initially reluctant to answer - Mel C said: "The political stuff's really difficult."

And Mel B, who is based in California, quipped: "I don't live here!"

But Geri stepped in again, saying: "Can I break this down to you lot? Whatever the outcome - the most important thing is let's stop the divisiveness, come together."

When they first got together, the Spice Girls expressed support for Maggie Thatcher - and proved to be proto-Brexiteers.

During a Spectator interview in 1996, Geri said: "We Spice Girls are true Thatcherites.

"Thatcher was the first Spice Girl, the pioneer of our ideology - Girl Power."

And Victoria, who's not part of the reunion, added: "The European federal plan is ridiculous. We are patriotic.

"The single currency is an outrage. We want the Queen’s head - or the King’s head if we have a king - on our own coins.

"The Euro-bureaucrats are destroying every bit of national identity. Let me give you an example - those new passports are revolting, an insult to our kingdom."
