Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt at the weekend insisted he believed Britain would “prosper” if it left the EU without a deal.

The Prime Minister separately moved to kill off a second referendum.

Some 30 Tory Brexiteers then met Monday night to discuss tactics - confirming “the pressure is off for now”.

Ex-Tory party leader Iain Duncan Smith told The Sun: “We are now able to get behind the Prime Minister as she’s moving in the right direction.

“The moment for a second referendum has passed. The high water mark was a week and-a-half ago. It’s clear there are two options on the table, they are a deal, or a managed No Deal.”

He added: “Jeremy Hunt coming out like that was very important.”

Tory backbencher Jacob Rees Mogg yesterday reiterated he would now “support her with enthusiasm”.

Both the arch Tory Brexiteers and the Ulster unionist DUP vowed to back the PM in any no confidence vote tabled by Labour.

The marked change in tone comes less than a week after the Brexiteers triggered a Tory No Confidence vote that Mrs May survived by 200 votes to 117.

Edward Leigh MP said he believed “dozens” of Tory Eurosceptics would back her deal in the New Year if she can secure legal of assurances from the EU on the hated ‘backstop’.

DUP MP Gavin Robinson yesterday revealed the PM appeared confident she would get the assurances she’s seeking on the hated ‘backstop’ – the post Brexit mechanism which could see the UK tied to EU customs rules.

He said: “We are working with the PM. She has indicated she will get these assurances and we will assess these at the time.
