DELAY, DELAY, DELAY

Dithering Theresa May puts off next week’s crunch Brexit votes – putting March 29 Brexit Day at risk

Today ministers announced that the re-run of the Brexit deal vote won't take place next week

THERESA May has pushed back yet another crunch vote on Brexit as MPs continue to dither.

Ministers today admitted there WON'T be a fresh vote on the PM's deal next week - with Mrs May needing more time to secure key changes.

The further delay increases the chance that Britain will end up postponing the date we actually quit the EU.

Mrs May had previously hinted she hoped to take her deal back to the Commons next week in the wake of her historic defeat last month.

But today Commons boss Andrea Leadsom suggested that won't happen.

Announcing Parliament's business for next week, Mrs Leadsom said instead that MPs would get a chance to vote on the way ahead - as they did last week.

SECOND CHANCE FOR REMAINERS

That will give Remainers a second chance to delay Brexit by months in order to avoid a No Deal outcome.

The vote will take place next Thursday - Valentine's Day.

Mrs Leadsom told the Commons: "We will bring a revised deal back to this house for a second meaningful vote as soon as we possibly can, and should that not be possible by February 13 then the Government will table an amendable motion for debate on February 14.

"MPs will know the Prime Minister is currently negotiating a revised deal for the UK's departure from the EU.

"The Prime Minister will provide an update to this house next week and I will make a further business statement if necessary as a consequence of her statement."

In next week's vote, MPs will have the power to table amendments directing the way forward on Brexit.

A group of Remainers led by Labour's Yvette Cooper is expected to bring back a motion delaying our exit by up to nine months which was narrowly defeated last Tuesday.

And pro-EU ministers could resign in order to back the amendment.
