MAY'S EXIT FEARS

Theresa May told she must offer her ‘head on a plate’ to deliver Brexit

THERESA May fears she may be forced to offer her “head on a plate” to deliver Brexit.

The PM’s allies believe the only way to win over hardline Brexiteers will be to quit as soon as Britain has left the EU.

Hardline Leavers have secretly discussed staging an unofficial no-confidence vote if she delays departure day.

They are barred from any attempt to oust her for a year after failing at the last attempt in December.

But nothing stops them holding an unofficial vote to pile pressure on her.

An ally said yesterday: “If we don’t get enough improvements to the deal, the promise of an early exit as PM may be the last resort.”

Senior Brexiteers have reportedly warned Mrs May the only way she can win their support would be by pledging to resign this summer.

That would allow a new Prime Minister to take over for the crucial talks on Britain's future trade relationship with the EU.

Leadership rivals such as Boris Johnson, Jeremy Hunt and Sajid Javid are already tooling up to ensure they're in pole position when the contest to replace Mrs May does begin.

Even close allies of the PM they want to see her leave office sooner rather than later.

Last month The Sun revealed Mrs May was considering quitting in the summer in a deliberate attempt to stop Boris getting in to No10.

In recent days Mr Hunt has ramped up his own leadership campaign - believing he can unite Leavers and Remainers.

MPs will vote on the Brexit deal on Tuesday - and if it fails, Brexit could be delayed by three months.
