Mr Cox is expected to issue legal advice on whether Britain can still be trapped in the Irish backstop after we quit the EU.

Brexiteers have said they'll use his his advice to decide how to vote in tonight's crunch vote on the PM's deal.

Mrs May last night agreed a series of tweaks with the EU designed to stop the UK getting permanently tied to the customs union.

Channel 4 News anchor Jon Snow claimed this morning that Mr Cox is opposed to the deal and under political pressure to change his mind.

The journalist tweeted: "A Lawyer contact tells me that the legal world is aware that the Attorney General said NO last night to the validity of Mrs May's 'new EU deal'...he been told to go away and find a way to say YES: A cohort of lawyers has been summoned."

Mr Cox hit out with a one-sentence tweet saying simply: "B******s".

The message could be a sign the Attorney General IS on side and will change his legal advice later today.

The minister, an experienced QC who joined the Cabinet last year, warned last year that the backstop could leave Britain tied to the EU permanently.

Dozens of Brexit-backing MPs say they can't back the revised deal unless he changes that opinion.

Mr Cox is known as "Tory Mufasa" for his booming voice and flamboyant demeanour.
