CHUKA Umunna will launch a savage attack on his former boss Jeremy Corbyn where he will slam Labour's alleged “racism against Jewish people”.

The Streatham MP, who defected over his old party’s stance on Brexit, is set to blast Corbyn during his first speech at the Lib Dem conference in Bournemouth.

CHUKA BLAST

Mr Umunna, once heavily tipped for Labour leader, is set to call the Islington North MP an "apologist for a hard-right Russian government" and criticise the way it has become "acceptable to abuse" opponents of the left-wing leader under the current regime.

He will tell delegates: "You (Labour) cannot be a champion of liberalism if you are currently subject to a formal investigation by the Equality & Human Right Commission for institutional racism against Jewish people.

"You cannot be a champion of liberalism when your leader's supporters think it is acceptable to abuse, vilify and deselect anyone who dares to question the leader.

"And you cannot claim to be liberal when the political editor of the BBC needs to take a bodyguard to your conference."

Umunna's Corbyn blast came after the Lib Dems voted to revoke Article 50 and block Brexit if they win a general election.

Remainer delegates backed ripping up Britain’s EU departure request without holding a referendum at the party’s annual conference over the weekend.

Lib Dem boss Jo Swinson now plans to out manoeuvre Labour, after her ranks were swollen by a number of defecting MPs – the latest being ex-Tory minister Sam Gyimah.

BREXIT BLOCKERS

She insisted on Sunday: “If people give a majority to a stop Brexit party, then yes stopping Brexit is exactly what they’ll get, we’ll revoke Article 50”.

Swinson, MP for East Dunbartonshire, told the Andrew Marr Show: "We have argued that a specific Brexit deal should be put to a People's Vote to give clarity.

"We still argue for that. But if we end up at a general election then I think we need to be straight forward with people and give them an option for all this Brexit chaos to stop.

"I recognise not everyone agrees with the Lib Dems on this. (But) it is genuinely what we think is right for the country."

James Cleverly, Tory chairman, predicted the Lib Dem stance would lead to "more delay, division and uncertainty".

"Despite calling herself a 'democrat', Jo Swinson's mask has slipped and we now know that she wants to overrule one of the largest democratic votes in British history, cancelling Brexit," the Braintree MP said.

For Swinson to secure a majority in the Commons and become prime minister, she would have to increase her current number of 18 MPs, which includes Gyimah's recent defection, to more than 350, gaining an election upswing never seen before in British electoral history.

She admitted the party would need to take a "leap" to achieve such results but said she wanted to "build the movement to do that".
