Trump uses Orlando massacre to call for new tougher migrant ban
Republican also attacked Hilary Clinton for wanting to 'disarm law-abiding Americans'
DONALD Trump has used the Orlando massacre to call for a ban on all immigrants from areas with “a proven history of terrorism”.
The plan is a further escalation of his divisive proposals to prevent all foreign Muslims from entering the US which came after a massacre in San Benardino, California, last year.
The presumptive Republican nominee also lashed out at presidential rival Hilary Clinton’s calls for proposing new gun controls in the wake of the mass shootings at a gay club in Florida which left 49 people dead.
"I would use this power to protect the American people. When I'm elected, I will suspend immigration from areas of the world where there is a proven history of terrorism against the United States, Europe or our allies until we fully understand how to end these threats," the real estate tycoon said.
"We cannot continue to allow thousands upon thousands of people to pour into our country, many of whom have the same thought process as this savage killer.”
He added: “It will be lifted, this ban, when as a nation we are in a position to properly and perfectly screen these people coming into our country.
“They are pouring in and we don’t know what we are doing.”
Yesterday he also called for US intelligence services to begin surveillance of mosques in a bid to tackle terrorism.
Reacting to Mrs Clinton’s calls to “stand together” and warning against demonising Muslims, the former reality TV star accused his rival of wanting to allow “radical Islamic terrorists to pour into our country”.
“Her plan is to disarm law-abiding Americans, leaving only the bad guys and terrorists with guns,” he said in a speech mentioning her 19 times.
“She wants to take away Americans’ guns, then admit the very people who want to slaughter us.”
He also accused President Barack Obama of failing to take tougher action against terrorism because he identified with radicalised Muslims who carried out Orlando-style atrocities.
"Look, we're led by a man that either is not tough, not smart, or he's got something else in mind," Mr Trump said in an extraordinary interview on Fox News.
"And the something else in mind — you know, people can't believe it. People cannot, they cannot believe that President Obama is acting the way he acts and can't even mention the words 'radical Islamic terrorism.'
“There's something going on. It's inconceivable. There's something going on."
