Rebel Labour MP unresigns after begging Jeremy Corbyn for her old job back
She stepped down less than a month ago saying Jezza's position was 'untenable'
A REBEL MP who resigned from Jeremy Corbyn’s top team has performed an extraordinary U-turn and begged him for her old job back.
Sarah Champion was among 63 MPs to resign from the frontbench less than a month ago as Labour moderates launched a brutal coup against the hard-left leader.
This afternoon Mr Corbyn’s office confirmed the shock U-turn, saying: “The Leader of the Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn, is pleased to announce the appointment of Sarah Champion MP, who is re-joining the Labour’s front bench as Shadow Home Office Minister, focusing on women, equality and domestic violence.”
They added they expected other former frontbenchers to follow suit. This was also echoed by Labour MPs as Mr Corbyn embarks on a fresh leadership bid with polls predicting an easy victory over Owen Smith.
"We hope that others will rejoin the shadow cabinet and get on with the job of opposing Government,” they said.
Another source said: "You saw what happened when the first miners went back to work so let's wait and see."
Ms Champion’s office confirmed she had retaken her position.
