Friends and family of London rail staff will LOSE free travel under aspiring Tory mayor’s plans to fund crime blitz

FRIENDS and family of London railway staff would LOSE their free travel under an aspiring Tory mayor’s plans to fund a crime blitz.

Susan Hall has promised the Met a £200million boost if she goes on to defeat Sadiq Khan - declaring: “Criminals will fear the police again.”

She said she will foot the majority of the costs by scrapping TfL nominee passes where mates of staff get a free ride, costing City Hall £160million every year.

The rest will be made by squeezing staff costs which Mr Khan has allowed to spiral since taking office in 2016.

Ms Hall told the Sun: “We have to sort out the Met Police, put an end to the scandals and get them solving crimes again.

“As Mayor, I will invest £200 million in the Met Police, funded by cutting waste in City Hall and TfL.”

Tomorrow Ms Hall will go head-to-head with rival candidates Dan Korski and Mozammel Hossain in the first Conservative hustings.

Crime is a key area each wannabe Mayor will hammer Mr Khan on if they are picked by party members to challenge him in next year’s election.

Laying out her stall, Ms Hall wants to give cops “knife detection wands” to make stop and searches easier.

She will also establish a specialist unit to tackle burglaries, robberies and thefts which victims claim go unanswered.

“In Sadiq Khan’s London, the vulnerable fear the police and criminals don’t. If I am your candidate, I will get him out of office and fix this injustice. Criminals will fear the police again.

“I am the only candidate in this contest who has worked at City Hall, who has held the Met to account as chair of the Police and Crime Committee, and who has fought Sadiq Khan. I know his weaknesses and I know how to win. You are safer with Susan as your candidate.”
