KEZIA Dugdale paid tribute to her “beautiful and amazing” girlfriend, the Nats MSP Jenny Gilruth, as she won a top gong at a diversity awards bash.

And Kezia, 36, admitted she’d learned to cherish her loved ones more than ever since the death of a close pal.

Her heartfelt statement came as she accepted the Politician of the Year title at the Icon Awards in Glasgow.

Kezia told the audience: “We celebrated the life of a very good friend of mine, , and he taught me to live life well. If I’ve learned anything this year it’s about spending time with people you love and focusing on the things that are important to you

“So I’m delighted I’m spending a lot more time with my beautiful and amazing partner Jenny.

“And also in standing up for things that are important to me, like LGBT rights.”

She joked: “It seems like the best way to win something was to resign as leader of the Scottish Labour Party.”

We told in July how Kezia had confirmed her relationship with the Nats MSP for Mid Fife and Glenrothes.

The parly pair got together after Kezia to college lecturer Louise Riddell, 35, last December.

Earlier this month the Lothian MSP claimed she’d been forced to reveal she was gay last year after a magazine outed her against her wishes.

After Friday’s event in Glasgow’s plush Hilton hotel, Kezia and Jenny partied at the city’s Light nightclub.

There they mingled with celebrities including model Caprice and TV stars Gok Wan, John Amabile and Sean Batty.

Yesterday proud Jenny tweeted: “So it turns out I go out with the Politician of the Year! Thanks for a fantastic evening.”

Kezia’s friend Gordon raised more than £500,000 for MND research before he died from the disease in February.

He was also honoured at the ceremony, where his husband, ITN reporter Joe Pike, picked up his Icon award.

But ex-councillor Rosa Zambonini, of Wishaw, Lanarkshire, fell ill and was rushed to hospital before she could collect her Straight Ally gong.
