A MAJOR police hunt is underway after the body of a man was discovered with stab wounds in Perth.
Several officers carried out door-to-door inquiries in the Muirton area of the city after the grim discovery was reported during the early hours of this morning.
Scenes of crime officers were inspecting the outside and interior of a home in Dunnock Park and a section of garden at one property had been cordoned off.
A total of six police vehicles were at the scene throughout the day yesterday, although a police spokesman declined to confirm they were treating the incident as a murder inquiry.
A major incident support unit has been established at the scene and a large patch of garden had been covered with a tarpaulin as a fingertip search of the surrounding area was carried out.
Local residents said they were shocked to have been woken by police during the early hours with news of a sudden violent death in the community.
One resident, who asked not to be named, said: "Officers came to my door around 4am and there were loads of police cars here - it was pandemonium. Obviously, something awful has happened but we don't know what took place."
Another neighbour said: "There have been loads of police here since the middle of the night and we heard a man had been found with stab wounds.
"It seems to be a murder as far as we can tell as the police are clearly looking for someone and they seem to be scouring the neighbourhood for signs of a weapon."
A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Officers are in attendance in Dunnock Park, Muirton, Perth, following the sudden death of a male in the early hours of this morning.
"Officers are treating the death as unexplained and are carrying out inquiries."
