Kirsty, who was on a hen do, is understood to have got married herself just a few months ago, reports .

The 32-year-old Brit - named only as Joseph - was due to appear in court today in behind-closed-doors hearing.

The man, who was staying in a room above her, was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Sources said the woman was on a boozy night out at the resort with 35 female pals and had allegedly taken drugs.

She left her room after her friends had gone to bed at around 4am and wandered barefoot to a suite above, where five male revellers from the UK were staying.

One insider said last night: “It is possible she became disorientated and ended up there by accident. The arrested man opened the door to her and was near her when the incident happened.”

Another source said he was arrested as a “precautionary measure” as his version of events did not match that of his friends’.

The insider added: “The version of events recounted by the man taken into custody didn’t quite match that of the others.

“But they admitted to drinking heavily and taking drugs and it wasn’t possible for the police to take a formal statement because of the state he was in.

“Once that formal statement has been taken, investigators will then be in a position to decide whether they can formally rule him out of the inquiry.”

The suspect is expected to be quizzed again by cops. Police have found no evidence to suggest the woman knew any of the five men.

They are also pursuing the possibility the death was a drunken accident or suicide.

Her body was found near the swimming pool at the Apartamentos Payma on Saturday morning.

Michael Harvey, who owns a bar opposite the apartment block, said: “It’s tragic and everyone’s hearts go out to the girl and her family.

“It’s something you never want to hear.

“I came to work in the morning and saw camera crews here. I had left work at five in the morning and it happened at about 8am.

“Once we find out the name and the finer details it would be nice to have a memorial for her.”

A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are supporting the family of a British national who sadly died in Benidorm on April 29.

“We are in contact with the local authorities.”
