AN Edinburgh street was on lockdown today as paramedics stopped en route to hospital in battle to save a man who was hit by a car.
The pedestrian, believed to be in his 60s, was struck by a motor at around 10.35am on Inverleith Row.
He was rushed to hospital in an ambulance with serious injuries.
However, the crew had to stop off at the city's Hill Place to perform an emergency procedure.
The road was closed off as paramedics fought save the man's life on the busy street.
Cops were spotted holding up a partition to shield the view from worried passers-by.
A shocked onlooker said: "At first I spotted a police car and ambulance whizzing past.
"I thought it had just been a minor accident.
"But then I saw a few more police cars arrive so I ran up to the cordoned area to see what was going on.
"Police officers were not letting anyone pass through the area and claimed it was a serious incident.
"I could see paramedics working behind a sheet which was being held up by officers.
"It was all very concerning."
The Scottish Ambulance Service have now confirmed the victim is currently in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.
The driver of the car was also taken to hospital.
Cops have confirmed inquiries are ongoing at this time.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police in Edinburgh were called to Inverleith Row at around 10.35am on Wednesday 15 November following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a car.
“A man in his 60s was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by the Scottish Ambulance Service with serious injuries.
“Local road closures remain in place and the public are asked to avoid the area if possible.
“Inquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Road Policing Unit via 101, quoting incident reference 900 of 15 November.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 1028 hours today to attend an incident on Inverleith Row.
“We dispatched two ambulances, a paramedic response unit, the Medic One medical team and a manager. The first unit arrived on scene within two minutes.
“One male patient was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary accompanied by the medical team.
“A second male patient was also taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.”
Shortly after the incident cops were scrambled to the same area over reports of a fight in the street.
Three people were detained after the alarm was raised at around 12.26pm on Nicholson Street.
A man and woman are being held for assault and another woman has been detained for obstruction.
