Mr Robins, who runs a charter boat company, was with pal Rich Stapleton and two customers when the mystery animal pounced.

He said: "A blue shark took the bait 50ft underneath the boat.

"Our customer was reeling it in quite happily when something big came in and attacked the blue shark we had on the line.

"It picked the shark up and carried it away spooling a couple hundred yards of line off the reel before dropping it.

"The blue shark then came to the surface with these savage bite marks.

"This wasn't multiple bites it was one powerful bite straight through the top of the head and side of the throat.

"We were fishing 15 miles north east of Newquay Cornwall when the attack happened but this isn't an isolated incident.

"We also had the same happen to another shark on Thursday fishing 11 miles out.

"So far there's a lot of speculation but no confirmed ID of the attacking shark.

"The blue shark that was attacked was a juvenile but the attacking shark would have been much bigger -over 300Ilbs in weight."

The extraordinary account comes after a headless dolphin was washed up at Portreath in Cornwall also covered in huge teeth marks.

The gruesome find was made by Charlotte Thomson who said it looked like if had been attacked by something huge.

She said: "We woke up this morning and noticed an animal on the beach not moving so went to have a look to see if we could save it but soon realised it was a baby dolphin that had been attacked by something huge.

"Its head had been bitten off and there were puncture marks with huge teeth marks about two inches long and its head and dorsal fin ripped off.

"Wonder what is out there in the sea that did this? Just so sad."
