Furious dad blasts sentence given to thug Celtic fan who battered son causing horror head injuries after Old Firm loss

A DAD has blasted the “pathetic” sentence given to a thug Celtic fan who caused his son horror head injuries.

Footie yob Ben Hutchison ripped a gash above the 15-year-old’s eye so deep that his skull was visible and it needed 45 stitches to pull the torn flesh back together.

But Hutchison, 25, only got 160 hours’ unpaid work and a £500 compo fine earlier this month.

The victim’s father, who can’t be named for legal reasons, told The Scottish Sun: “The sentence was absolutely pathetic. He should have been jailed.

“I’m totally disgusted. Some people have had tougher sentences for not having a TV licence.

“How can he get a £500 fine for giving my boy 45 stitches in the head?

“He gave him a severe beating and left a 15-year-old boy traumatised.

“He’s constantly looking over his shoulder and every time he looks in the mirror he sees the scar and it takes him right back to that moment.

“He’s become quite withdrawn and he was worried walking about the street because the guy was out on bail.

“We were lucky there was a specialist doctor at Forth Valley Hospital who did a great job otherwise the scar could have been a lot worse.

“They had to give my boy an injection in his head, underneath the skin which was a horrible experience for him.

“The doctor did a fantastic job but my son still has to look at that every single day.”

Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard Hutchison battered the lad in the street after being teased about Rangers beating Celtic 2-0 last October.

Hutchison, of the town, had guzzled eight cans when he lashed out in Kincardine, Fife.

He later admitted assaulting the boy - now 16 - to his severe injury and disfigurement.

'RAGING' DAD

Sheriff Susan Duff told him: “I note that you would take it back if you could.”

But the boy’s dad plans to appeal against the sentence and complain to cops about their handling of the probe.

He said: “I’m raging about it and I’m speaking to lawyers about an appeal. I’m also unhappy with the police investigation and I’ll be lodging a complaint with them too.”
