Parents’ fury as school that left kids ‘frozen’ without coats now inspects their SOCKS – with grey being ‘unacceptable’

PARENTS at a school which banned coats in the middle of winter are now furious as their kids are having SOCKS inspected.

Bishop Heber High School, in Malpas, Cheshire, told kids grey socks are "unacceptable" and only black ones will suffice, parents said.

It comes only months after the school sparked outrage for confiscating any coats in the playground which were not the school's official branded anorak - despite the freezing weather outside.

The move angered parents as it came just before a change in parliamentary legislation which seeks to limit the amount of branded items in a school's uniform, reports.

The new rules will be fully enforced from September.

The school have agreed to "review" the policy which saw parents forced to shell out at least £94.50 to get their kids in the right kit.

Despite this apparent review, one parent told CheshireLive that the school's hard-line approach to uniform continues and accused the comprehensive of "doubling down".

The parent said: "The school appear to be doubling down, and continue to disregard the uniform law.

"Yesterday there was some kind of uniform inspection where the children were told for example that grey socks were unacceptable."

To their astonishment "only black would suffice".

Anger has soared from parents who also argue the branded clobber leaves their kids freezing - and they're not allowed to wrap up in any other clothing.

One mum told how in January her child's "hands were so cold that he couldn’t hold his pen in English."

While another parent revealed that at the time her asthmatic son was even put into isolation for retrieving his confiscated coat.

Bishop Heber headteacher David Curry told CheshireLive: "Both the school and the Governing Body are aware of the Government guidance and are carrying out a full review of our uniform policy.

"Parents will be notified of any changes in a timely fashion."
