My daughter was excluded from school for wearing the wrong socks – 50 students were punished, it’s utterly ridiculous

A DAD is fuming after his daughter was excluded from school for wearing the wrong socks, as 50 other students were punished too.

Dozens of secondary school students were pulled out of class and put into isolation for breaching the uniform policy on Monday.

The crackdown at Peterborough's The Deepings School is said to have seen around 50 youngsters miss vital lessons for wearing the wrong socks or trousers.

One dad, who asked not to be named, said he couldn't understand why his daughter had been excluded from class when her plain black ankle socks and long trousers complied with the rules.

He told : “The actions taken are completely unreasonable and have served only to disrupt my daughter’s education.

“This is the last thing that is needed at a critical point in her schooling, especially after the disruption of the covid pandemic.

“I know there has to be standards but the punishment needs to be proportionate.

“Uniform is a minor infringement - they should just have a word with the pupil and then escalate the matter if it continues.”

The family has since received an apology from a school staff member who said the young girl's uniform didn't actually breach the uniform policy.

Another parent also complained that students who were pulled from class during the crackdown were not being taught anything while in the school's ‘behaviour inclusion centre’.

However, the school's interim headteacher, Alun Ebenezer, said that work is provided to the students when they're pulled from class.

But the dad claims that wasn't the case on Monday.

He said: “I have no issue with them being taken out of class, but they should still be taught the curriculum while they are in there.”

Mr Ebenezer disagreed, saying: “The pupils who are put into the behaviour centre will be those who said they’re not going to follow the rules.

"This is when it becomes about defiance, not just uniform.

“I do think the little things matter and I’m not going to give up. We are trying to instil discipline and standards.”

The Sun Online has approached the school for further comment on the matter.

This comes just days after a mum defended her daughter when she was punished for breaking her school's "extreme" uniform rules.

Louise Tyms says the dress code at Ormskirk School in Lancashire is "ridiculous and so outdated" after her daughter was listed as a student not following the rules.
