M25 crash: Van bursts into flames on motorway with massive traffic delays after road blocked

Traffic held clockwise on the motorway between junction and services

A HORRIFYING van fire on the M25 has broken out and sparked rush hour travel chaos this morning.

The vehicle erupted into a fireball between junction 5 and 6 on the M25, sending plumes of black smoke into the air as emergency services tackled the inferno.

At present, all traffic is being held clockwise on the motorway from junction 5 on the M26 and the A21 in Sevenoaks until the Clacket Lane services.

National Highways confirmed drivers were able to use lanes three and four from around 9.30am.

Meanwhile, lanes one and two remain closed as the incident is assessed and cleared from the motorway.

No injures were reported after two fire engines raced to the scene and extinguished the fire.

A spokesman for National Highways confirmed: “Traffic has temporarily stopped on the M25 clockwise between J5 and J6 due to a vehicle fire.

“Traffic remains blocked and the Kent Fire and Rescue Service remains working on the scene.”

Disruption is expected for at least an hour following the shocking blaze.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Two fire engines attended and crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames using hose reel jets and compressed air foam.”
