Lanhydrock House upset locals with the image that showed cream first and then jam, which is the Devon style

The snap on Lanhydrock House’s photo has a scone topped with cream and then jam.

The traditional Cornish method is jam first and cream on top.

Local Michael Gardner replied to the Facebook post: “Lanhydrock House has just p***ed off the entirety of Cornwall with this photo.”

Another said: “Nnnoooo surely an early April fool joke.”

But those in Devon saw the funny side.

Brian Stenjelly said: “Looks perfect to me. Everyone knows this is the tastier way.”

National Trust site Lanhydrock House apologised for the error and said staff will today wear badges marked #jamfirst.

A spokesman added: “The staff member has been reprimanded and marched back over the Tamar.”

But it then included a Devon-style scone next to a Cornish one in the apology.
