Sir JM Barrie owned Black Lake Cottage from 1901 to 1908

The woodlands near the summer retreat inspired the author and playwright’s enchanting stories and settings, including Peter Pan’s idyllic Neverland.

Barrie owned the cottage in posh Farnham, Surrey, from 1901 to 1908.

But now estate agent Strutt and Parker is marketing the six-bedroom Lobswood House – part of the larger historic country house that included Barrie’s retreat – for £1.35 million and it says the property retains “great charm and character”.

It is thought the new property name is derived from the character Lob in Barrie’s Dear Brutus.

The retreat was extended in 2015 to provide two extra bedrooms.

Barrie became known by them as Uncle Jim and their exploits inspired much of his creations. He unofficially adopted the boys after the deaths of their parents.

Waverley Borough Council has placed a plaque on the wall of the Victorian property to recognise its former famous owner. It was previously a hotel and childrens’ home.
