New York Gov Andrew Cuomo ordered Attorney General Letitia James to investigate the incidents surrounding Prude's death in July 2020 via an

On February 23, 2021, the New York Attorney General's office announced that no officer in the case would be charged.
James said that her office presented the "strongest case possible" to a grand jury, but the grand jury decided not to indict any officers in the case, according to .
