Dramatic moment man is swept away in raging floods as he tries to reach his car in Benidorm after deadly storm hits Costa Blanca and kills at least one

THIS is the terrifying footage of a man being swept away by deadly flood water and out to sea as flash flooding wreaks havoc on the Costa Blanca with at least one person reported to have died. 

The shocking video was taken from a balcony above the water in Benidorm and shows a man battling to reach his car before he is dramatically swept away down the street by the raging flood water.

The camera follows him as the helpless man is dragged out onto the beach by the force of the water and out into the open sea before he disappears from view.

Brit ex-pats are battening down the hatches as torrential rain and flash flooding continue to wreak havoc on the holiday hotspot with the regions of Murcia and Valencia being the worse hit.

An elderly man has drowned in Finestrat, just south of Benidorm, in the province of Alicante, after he was swept away by the floods.

He was reported to have been working near the beach area in the Cala de Finestrat, apparently ignoring warning signs, and was dragged away by the waves.

There are also reports of drivers being trapped in their cars because of the flooding and extensive damage to homes and businesses.

Football matches in the region have been cancelled and many schools have closed early as the freak weather continues to cause disruption for residents and tourists in the area.

Elsewhere in the country, the holiday islands of Ibiza and Formentera in the Balearics are also under an orange warning for rain and tidal surges.

Yesterday a number of flights were unable to land at UK airports due to freezing fog causing travel mayhem with many people having to be diverted to other airports.

And in America bone-chilling temperatures of -34C have put parts of the country into a deadly deep freeze with weather experts warning spending less than ten minutes outside in the “life-threatening cold” in the north east of the country could give people frostbite.
