The Duke of Sussex, 36, has been secretly writing the book detailing his life as a royal, his relationship with Meghan Markle, 39, Megxit and raising their children, Lilibet and Archie.

He has been working with Pulitzer Prize-winning ghostwriter J. R. Moehringer on the as-yet untitled book due out in 2022.

Publishing experts have estimated Harry could have been given an advance of £14.6million ($20 million) for his story.

The shock announcement comes after Harry and Meghan's explosive Oprah Winfrey interview rocked the Palace.

It comes as:

A source told Harry's book has sent shockwaves through Palace circles.

The source said: “Ever since leaving royal life, Harry and Meghan have made claim after claim of how they allege they have been treated.

“They say that it is their truth but there is only ever one truth.

“Since their interview with Oprah Winfrey tensions have been running very high as much of what they said has since been proven to be unreliable at best.

“There is a now tsunami of fear among the royals over what Harry will write.

"Many hope he may correct a few things but do not hold much hope."

This morning, Royal expert Duncan Larombe told GMB Harry's memoir would be "the stuff of nightmares" for the royals.

News of Harry's book was released by Page Six and confirmed in a statement on the Sussexes' website Archewell.

It is not known if he had warned the Queen before last night - with claims dad Charles was surprised by the news.

A spokesman for Harry last night said he told his family including the Queen about the book only “very recently”.

In a statement from his £11million mansion in Montecito, California, Harry said: “I’m writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become.

“I’ve worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and my hope is that in telling my story – the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned – I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think.

“I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over the course of my life so far and excited for people to read a first-hand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful.”

The Sun broke the news to Clarence House aides while Charles was at a reception in Lostwithiel, Cornwall, at 6.30pm.

It was clear aides had no idea the book was being written or even being announced. One said simply: “Oh gosh.”

Well-placed sources said Buckingham Palace officials had been unaware of the book.

The duke said he will be donating his profits from the book to charity.

The publisher said it was an “honest” and “intimate” autobiography – sparking fears of more revelations after his Oprah interview with Meghan accused the Royal Family of racism.

Last night there were howls of derision from critics after biographer Omid Scobie tweeted that Prince Harry was “ready to tell his story”.

Piers Morgan, using crying laughing emojis, replied: “Ready to tell his story? Prince Privacy hasn’t stopped yapping, whining & trashing his family all bloody year.”

Royal biographer Ingrid Seward added: “I find it extraordinary that Harry feels the need to do this.”
