Meghan Markle and Prince Harry warn more deadly Covid strains could sweep planet in dire vaccination call in open letter

PRINCE Harry and Meghan Markle  have warned that more deadly strains of Covid could sweep the world as they urge countries to share doses.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are calling on world leaders who have a surplus of vaccinations to donate them to those in need as “lives literally depend on it”.

Harry and Meghan have teamed up with the World Health Organisation to pressure global leaders to donate more doses to countries struggling with vaccinations.

They stepped down from the Royal Family at the beginning of last year, moving out to California with son Archie, 2, and welcomed daugher Lilibet earlier this year.

The couple’s letter has also been co-authored by WHO Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, and backed by the Vaccine Alliance, UNAIS, Clinton Foundation, Global Citizen and the Pandemic Action Network.

In an open letter posted on the WHO website they said: “We can’t simply hope for the pandemic to end on its own.

“As the virus progresses through unvaccinated populations, we risk new and more deadly strains sweeping the planet.

“Further, with trillions of dollars already lost and trillions more expected to be lost, economies will never fully recover until the whole world can operate as normal.

“There are many crises that you – the stewards of our planet – must grapple with this weekend: the climate emergency, the state of our global economy, a recommitment to multilateralism.

“Yet, in many ways, making headway on these priorities depends on whether we can beat this pandemic.”

“Cooperation of historic proportions is the only solution. Lives literally depend on it.”

Harry and Meghan previously gushed that "where you're born should not dictate your ability to survive" at a Covid concert calling for vaccine equity.

They preached to millions watching the event in September, about the need to ensure vaccines were shared with third world countries.

The massive event was the climax of the couple's New York City tour which saw them meet high-powered politicians, hug students and pose for photo ops.

It is the second letter that Meghan has written in the last month, as she came under fire for claiming she struggled in a letter to the US Congress - despite attending a $16k-a-year private school and using nannies for child care.

The Duchess of Sussex claimed she lived off $5 Sizzler salads as a kid as she backed calls for paid parental leave.

'LIVES LITERALLY DEPEND ON IT'

But critics slammed the letter and point out her father was an Emmy award-winning lighting director and that she enjoyed a private education which was paid by her dad's salary and state lottery win.

She attended Hollywood's private Little Red Schoolhouse, where staff fed students six different types of organic vegetables from the school garden each week.

When she was nine, Markle's dad won $750,000 in a lottery, which helped send her to the Immaculate Heart Catholic School - one of LA's finest.

Markle regularly visited her dad who was working on the set of Married... with Children as a lighting director and who was believed to be earning $200,000 a year.

It comes as the Duchess said she and Prince Harry had been "overwhelmed" by the birth of their second child Lilibet.

In the same letter, she wrote: "Like any parents, we were overjoyed. Like many parents, we were overwhelmed.

"Like fewer parents, we weren’t confronted with the harsh reality of either spending those first few critical months with our baby or going back to work."
