Windsor Castle crossbow suspect ‘had grudge against royals for two years’

THE Windsor Castle crossbow suspect had a two-year grudge against the royals, it is claimed.

Jaswant Singh Chail, 19, is alleged to have threatened to kill the Queen in revenge for a colonial bloodbath.

Saurav Dutt, author of a book on the 1919 Amritsar massacre in which British-led troops shot and killed 379 unarmed Indians, said Chail contacted him after seeing a panel discussion.

He claims Chail wanted an apology and sent him an email in 2019 saying “the royals should say the words outright and that Prince Philip in particular was culpable as he served in the Navy with the son of Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer whose order led to the massacre”.

Chail, a Sikh from Southampton, remained in the care of medical professionals yesterday after a mental health assessment. The Met Police said its enquiries are ongoing.

Footage obtained by The Sun showed a masked man with distorted voice holding a crossbow and referring to the massacre.

The video was uploaded to Snapchat at 8.06am on Christmas Day — 24 minutes before a man was arrested inside the castle grounds.

A neighbour in Southampton said the suspect’s dad Jasbir Singh Chail had been worried about his son.

They added: “The dad mentioned how difficult it was getting his son involved in anything positive or trying to motivate him.

“He said his son was spending more time alone in his room on social media and the lockdown had made this worse.”

Home Secretary Priti Patel yesterday ordered a review of crossbow laws amid concern there is no record or licensing requirement for the weapons, unlike firearms.
