PRINCE Harry and Meghan Markle have said too much about Prince William and Queen Camilla for the couple to have any hope of a hybrid royal role, an expert has said.

Palace insiders claim Harry has offered to make a temporary royal return to support King Charles.

But veteran royal correspondent Valentine Low said a comeback has been "completely ruled out".

He said Harry's bombshell attack on William and Camilla in his memoir Spare is a "huge barrier" to his return.

Speaking on The Sun's Royal Exclusive show, Low said: "There's all sorts of obstacles.

"Harry and Meghan have done and said so many things about William, about Camilla, about his own father.

"You would have thought there are huge barriers to him coming over and doing anything.

"In the long run, can I completely rule it out? No, I don't think I can.

"But it's so far off. I don't think we can consider it for the moment."

He added: "It's absolutely fascinating. This would change everything - up to now it's been completely ruled out.

"What was interesting was that, you know, within 24 hours palace sources were ruling it out.

Former Times journalist Low added: "It has to be said it's pretty unlikely.

"The late Queen was very clear that Harry and Meghan could not have a hybrid role half-in, half-out as they wanted to do.

"Prince Charles as he was then was absolutely behind that. It's not as if the royal family was divided in their views.

"The suggestion, wherever it came from, seems to be off the mark I think."

Low added: "There's also the general principle - do their commercial activities in the United States impinge in any way on royal activities?

"Obviously if you're here as a full-time working royal in this country, you're not undertaking commercial activities.

"Nothing's going to taint the monarchy. That was always the late Queen's fear.

"What they do commercially, which can be perfectly valid, would taint the brand and mystique of the monarchy."

Five bombshell Spare claims

  • Harry admitted taking cocaine aged 17 to "make himself feel different" in his bombshell memoir Spare. He said he took "a line" of the Class A drug during a hunting weekend and had since "consumed some more".
  • Harry claimed his brother "knocked him to the floor" during an argument about Meghan Markle. He said William "grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and knocked me to the floor".
  • Harry claimed his brother and Kate Middleton encouraged him to wear his notorious Nazi uniform to a fancy dress party. The Duke of Sussex, 38, said William and Kate “howled with laughter” when they saw him dressed up in the offensive outfit for the party in 2005.
  • Harry boasting about his 25 Taliban kills as an army helicopter pilot in Afghanistan. The former Apache pilot, who served two tours of Afghanistan, claimed he did not see the enemy as people and did not feel pride or shame over his kill tally.
  • Harry laid into his father for not hugging him after the death of his mother, Diana, the late Princess of Wales, and claimed the King would often make jokes of “poor taste” about his paternity. He branded Camilla the “villain” and a “wicked stepmother” and accused her of leaking stories to the media about Prince William.

But Low said a personal reconciliation between Harry and Charles could be on the table.

The royal expert said: "Out of love for his son Charles certainly could forgive him.

"There's no theoretical obstacle to a personal reconciliation - even with William.

"That will take a long time, of course. We all know that.

"If Harry comes home to see his family on a regular basis that could certainly happen.

"If he's over here might he appear on a royal engagement. I guess that could happen.

"But undertaking engagements and so on - I don't think that's going to happen, at least not for a very long time."

Low added: "The palace is not going to stop him coming back to have personal relations with his family.

"The courtiers and advisers are incredibly important, and they do have an influence on events.

"But the big decisions are taken by the royals themselves - the principals, as they call them.

"That was very evident, for instance, in the original Megxit negotiations - the Sandringham summit which we all remember.

"The advisers drew up a list of alternatives but it was the Queen and the other members of the family who took the final decision.

"I think that's what will happen this time. I think it's the members of the family who will take any of these big decisions."
