IT gladdened my heart to see King Charles back undertaking royal duties.

Smiling and seeming his usual cheery self, he greeted Korean War veterans invited to a reception at Buckingham Palace.

Some 200 miles north and Prince William was visiting a homelessness project in Sheffield, a cause dear to his heart.

The wonderful pictures of the King and his heir will delight millions during a trying time for the Royal Family.

Charles and William were doing what our royals do best — getting on with the job.

It’s all about duty, duty, duty. It’s what they were reared to do. They turn up, rain or shine, greeting people with smiles and kind words.

That sense of duty to crown and country has also been instilled in Princess Catherine.

Make no mistake, both Charles and Kate will have been so frustrated to miss engagements due to ill health.

That’s why the lies and gossip that have swirled around them on the internet is so hurtful to me and no doubt countless others.

The exclusive pictures The Sun released yesterday of Kate shopping at Windsor Farm Shop with William were delightful.

She was flashing a big smile — clearly happy to be out and about — and had a glow about her that says she is recovering well from her operation in January.

But that wasn’t enough for internet trolls, who now claim it wasn’t Kate in our lovely pictures but a body double or AI fake.

How Kate Middleton has gone from all-action princess to having to miss precious royal duties as she continues recovery

Yeah, and Elvis has been spotted riding Shergar up Windsor High Street.

The idiots behind these lies are either deliberately trying to damage the Royal Family, pathetically looking for likes on social media or they’re a couple of sandwiches short of a picnic.

Kate is recovering from a serious operation. She has a right to recuperate without having to answer to every deluded keyboard warrior.

The Russians have got in on the act too. On Monday, news media there reported that King Charles had died.

A mocked-up announcement on official-looking Buckingham Palace headed notepaper featuring the royal crest said he had passed away.

Complete rubbish, probably designed to destabilise Britain.

You’d think the Russians would have enough on their plate after their botched invasion of Ukraine.

But the hoax got so much traction around the world that the British Embassy in Ukraine was forced to deny the claim.

Scurrilous rumours like this are the sort of rubbish our Royal Family is subjected to day in, day out.

The King has answered the trolls in the best way he can, getting on with his job as the figurehead of the nation.

Though being treated for cancer, Charles looked relaxed and in his element before the Palace reception today.

Make haste slowly, sir

As an ex-military man he would have enjoyed meeting and sharing anecdotes with the Korean War veterans.

Our King is humble and upbeat. He genuinely enjoys meeting ordinary folk up and down the country.

Hopefully it won’t be too long before he’s out connecting with people across the land and able to go on his autumn tour to Australia and New Zealand.

But that’s getting a bit far ahead.

My advice? Make haste slowly, sir. Treatment takes time and so does recuperation.

It’s been a frustrating time for Kate as well. A mother of three, just think of the number of charities she is involved in and the amount of good work she does.

When she smiles she makes you smile, she’s an amazing woman.

Let her get better, have a holiday with the children and come back fighting fit.

Of course, William has been so supportive of his father and wife. It must have been a really tough few months for him and a difficult workload.

Last week I saw him giving an amazing speech at the Diana Legacy Awards in memory of his dear mother.

He looked a real statesman. His mum would be so proud of the way he conducts himself as a father and heir to the throne.

As for Charles, I’m sure he is determined to attend Trooping the Colour, which celebrates his official birthday on June 15.

Usually the monarch rides from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guards Parade via The Mall to inspect the troops.

Charles was on horseback last year but there is some suggestion that due to his health he may have to go by carriage this time round.

But this is the man I watched for 30 years fearlessly playing polo.

If doctors allow it, I’m sure he’ll be riding down The Mall to inspect his troops once more.

It would be a wonderful moment that would flash around the globe.

And it will be a proud moment for Britain and the Windsor family.

YOUR LETTERS

PICTURES of William and Kate walking, smiling and acting like a normal couple were great to see as they visited their local farm shop.

What a real scoop for The Sun — and the pictures were not edited!

STEPHEN TURNBULL

WELL done The Sun, on two counts.

Firstly, for standing up for the Princess of Wales when others joined the conspiracy bandwagon ovconcer her edited family picture, causing her unnecessary pain.

And secondly, for publishing a few lovely photos of her and William beaming together to put a halt to all the wild hysteria.

The Sun, as usual, has its finger on the pulse of British people and, once again, made the right call.

HARRY HODGE

Aldershot, Hants

NO sooner does The Sun publish an exclusive photo of the Princess of Wales at a farm shop with Prince William then people start to say it is fake, in a desperate attempt for likes.

I refuse to engage with these idiots. The likes of Twitter and TikTok need to address such nonsense.

NATASHA RUSSELL-CARR

OH how much I agree with The Sun for telling everyone to “Lay Off Kate”.

The trolls have gone far enough now!

I think the trolling mainly comes from supporters of Meghan and Harry.

Kate makes one mistake on photoshop, but Harry and Meghan are never criticised for their pictures.

Why is there such a vendetta against William and Kate? Pure jealousy.

ANN FORSHAW

THE Princess of Wales is a public figure, not public property.

Online speculation about her is becoming ridiculous. Often the people saying “be kind” are the same ones peddling vicious rumours.

I stand fully with the Royal Family.

WILLIAM CRAIG

THE trolls must have had a field day suggesting all sorts of terrible things about Kate and William, but the new pictures of the couple make it clear that they were wrong.

Are they ashamed? Not a bit.

It’s good to see Kate is recovering from surgery and it’s a delight to see her happy and smiling with William.

What a lovely couple they are.
