A cute snap, which is understood to be unedited, was taken by Kate at Windsor in the last few days to mark Louis' special day on Tuesday.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told The Sun the Twitter post should bring happiness to the public and shows the royals' strength as Kate undergoes cancer treatment.

He exclusively said: "I'm delighted that the tradition of putting out a photograph of the Wales' children on their birthday has continued because it's tremendously important.

"I mean, it's so important you want privacy, or as much privacy as possible, for the future King and his siblings growing up.

"William and Catherine absolutely and rightly are so obsessive about this.

"But, on the other hand, of course, the royal family need the media to put across their charitable messages.

"It is a careful balance and that involves having photographs of them on particular occasions.

"And it's very important because it's only reasonable. People would want that."

Richard added despite Kate's shocking cancer announcement, the Wales' will still post a snap on their wedding anniversary this week.

"I mean, whether it be current one or not, one doesn't know, but I'm delighted it's being kept, and royal fans will be happy.

Prince William and Kate's affectionate royal nicknames revealed

"It's it sends a positive message [during a tough time for the royals].

"And you know, it's something that people will look forward to seeing. And it's a link that we want kept."

The birthday snap of the prince, posing on his front in a garden, was shared across Kate and Wills' social media today.

In the photo Prince Louis can be seen wearing the Camel Check Oliver Shirt from  which typically retails for £50 but is currently down to £25 in their sale.

The proud parents said: "Happy 6th Birthday, Prince Louis!

"Thank you for all the kind wishes today."

Kate's sweet tradition for Louis's birthday

SHE may be a princess, but Kate Middleton is just like the rest of us when it comes to wanting to make a fuss about her children on their birthdays.

Back in 2019, the royal appeared in Mary Berry's A Berry Royal Christmas and revealed that she "loves" making her children's birthday cakes from scratch - and it's now become somewhat of a household tradition.

“It's become a bit of a tradition that I stay up 'til midnight with ridiculous amounts of cake mix and icing and I make far too much," she said.

"But I love it," she added.

And with her daughter Charlotte’s ninth birthday in just a week's time on May 2, it's likely she'll be keeping herself busy in the kitchen.

Royal expert Danielle Stacey told : "The Princess of Wales's number one priority has always been her children.

"She has been supporting George, Charlotte and Louis through all their major milestones, including George's first big exams last year.

"We've seen the Princess take some incredibly fun and playful portraits of her children over the years and baking their birthday cakes.

"She's likely to feel that it's important to keep those traditions going to maintain a sense of normality."

Prince Louis has often stolen the show while joining his parents William and Kate on big royal occasions.

In December cheeky Louis blew out the candle being held by big sister Princess Charlotte in a service at Westminster Abbey.

The youngster was also snapped playing up during a carriage ride and balcony appearance at last year's Trooping of the Colour.

Louis was seen wrinkling his face, pinching his nose, messing up his hair and pointing his finger at the sky en route to the ceremony.

He even covered his ears and stretched his arms as he stood on the balcony of Buckingham Palace during an RAF flypast.

And the prince was also  as they chatted during their grandad's coronation.

He was seen pulling cheeky faces outside the church before the historic ceremony began - before vanishing out of sight.

The young prince reappeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony, where he banged his fists on the wall and pulled more faces.

As a toddler, the prince earned the nation's love with his antics on the Buckingham Palace balcony during the Platinum Jubilee.

Royal expert Phil Dampier said: "It’s been a great year for little Prince Louis, who is becoming a star in his own right.

"He is a real live-wire and always seems to be up for a practical joke or a funny gesture towards his older siblings.

"Big sister Charlotte already looks like she has the measure of him, and keeps him just this side of over-exuberance.

"But as Prince Louis grows up we will all enjoy seeing how he turns out."

In May last year Princess Kate let Louis's family nickname slip on a visit to a scout hut in Slough.

What is Prince Louis’ official title?

WITH his cheeky grin and playful nature, Prince Louis has certainly made his mark on the Royal family.

The royal is the youngest son of the Prince and Princes of Wales - and like his siblings, he has an impressive title.

Kate and William's youngest child holds the formal title of His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Wales.

Before his father was made Prince of Wales, Louis was known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.

Another title he bears is His Royal Highness Prince Louis of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Mothers’ lens gets best grin

BY ARTHUR EDWARDS

WITH all the gloom hanging over the House of Windsor in the past four months it is lovely to see a smile from the youngest member of the family.

No one gets children smiling better than their mother and Catherine’s certainly cracked it again with this sixth birthday picture of Prince Louis.

After the recent hiccup over the family’s Easter photo, the Princess is back on form with her camera.

Catherine may be recovering from cancer but she got a wonderful snap of her boy. Louis is giving her a wonderful smile.

A smile that is a far cry from the little imp I photographed on the Buckingham Palace balcony pulling cheeky faces during the late Queen’s Platinum jubilee.

The Prince of Wales’s office also posted all Louis’ birthday photos.

But now Louis is six, this one is the best so far because he has happily posed for a photo.

Many happy returns, Louis, and well done Ma’am, you have captured a great photo for the family album and for history.
