The Prince of Wales, 42, who is colonel-in-chief of the regiment, gave out gifts to the children of the families at Picton Barracks.

Prince William was greeted at the entrance by 18-month-old the regimental mascot Derby the ram in Bulford, Wiltshire.

Inside the sergeant's mess he chatted and joked at ten tables of servicemen and women and their children.

Ten-year-old Karson Heighway handed Wills a drawing of the prince he had penned on a post-it note.

Wills looked at the drawing and said: "Is that me?"

The prince then joked: "Looks like I have five nostrils."

But he was suitably impressed to fold the drawing up and put it in his breast pocket.

Asked about his Royal Family Christmas plans, he revealed hopes for long walks with the family dog as they spend the festive period in Norfolk.

He said: "Am I ready for Christmas? No, no way am I ready."

But told another table he was looking forward to Christmas with 45 members of his family "all in one room" but "normally spread out".

William asked five-year-old Alexander Fitzgerald what he wanted for Christmas.

His dad Sgt Lee Fitzgerald, 39, said afterwards: "He said he wanted a Nintendo Switch and when they spoke about playing Mario Kart William said he was supposed to let your dad win sometimes."

All servicemen and their families wore Christmas jumpers to the bash.

He was also treated to a song from a Fijian choir - formed of soldiers from the Mercian Regiment.

How Meghan and Harry are investing their Netflix millions

HARRY and Meghan have begun investing their Netflix millions in a property portfolio.

They have bought a new home in Portugal, around the corner from Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie and her husband.

But the Sussexes, who have been spending an increasing amount of time apart, do not plan to live in their new pad, The Sun understands.

It is not known if the property will be rented out, used for Airbnb-style holiday lets or used purely to park money.

But it is seen as the first step of putting earnings from their TV and book deals into a global property empire.

“They’re being smart with their money,” a source said.

They pocketed £75million from streaming giant Netflix where they laid into fellow royals in a six-part series.

Meanwhile Harry, who got a £15million advance for his autobiography Spare, also inherited £8million from the late Queen Mother after turning 40 in September.

Palace insiders have been concerned about what will happen when the Sussexes run out of cash.

They have huge overheads, forking out a fortune on security in the US and for when Harry visits the UK.

And they are still paying a mortgage on the £11million Montecito mansion they bought after quitting as working royals in 2020.

Insiders say the Portugal home will be part of a financial portfolio which will include more real estate.

It comes on the same day as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's polo documentary aired on Netflix.

Harry and Meghan are executive producers of the five-episode series which is shot primarily at the US Open Polo Championship in Wellington, Florida.

The Sussexes make an appearance themselves in episode five with the pair shown sharing a kiss on the podium.

The series by Harry and Meghan's Archewell Productions is their fourth output with Netflix as part of their multi-million pound deal with the streaming giant.

It follows elite global players on and off the field, with the "sexy" sport billed in the trailer as showcasing "dirty, sweaty boys...riding".

But royal expert Phil Dampier told The Sun he wasn't sure their new show would appeal to a massive audience.

He said: "Polo is a very niche sport. It's very much a sport for very wealthy people.

"The average person can't afford a polo mallet or stick let alone a horse or a horse box.

"I don't think it's going to attract many new players."

In one moment during the show, Harry and Meghan can be seen poking fun at each other.

The duke introduces his wife to Adolfo Cambiaso with Harry proudly saying: "She's fluent in Spanish."

Meghan replies in Spanish and talks about her time living in Argentina and its May 25 Revolution Day national holiday.

"Yes, I lived there about 20 years ago. In Palermo Viejo. Las Canitas too…I love the 25th of May," the duchess says.

Cambiaso asks whether Harry speaks Spanish, with Meghan replying "Si" and Harry laughing and saying: "He knows I don't."

Meghan is also shown perched on the edge of the boot of a car concentrating as she watches her husband in the match.
