The family also joined together on Christmas Day for the annual Sandringham Church Service and now, as the Royal Family pull together more than ever, insiders say Prince William, who recently described this year as the ‘hardest’ of his life, is determined that the New Year rings in a new chapter for Kate by whisking her off her feet for a second romantic ‘honeymoon’.

As reported by , a source recognised that the last year has left them “closer than ever”.

The source said: “Wills is ever the romantic - Kate values their alone time, nothing is more special than having her prince to herself. So he's planning a romantic getaway - just the two of them - Wills has set the wheels in motion to whisk Kate away.”

Not only this, but the source claimed that a vow renewal wouldn’t come as a surprise too, as they added: “And those close to them wouldn’t be surprised if the royal couple took this time out to reaffirm their wedding vows in a private blessing.”

Kate became an inspiration to cancer sufferers and their families when she opened up on her diagnosis and going through treatment this year.

In September, she and William released a video to announce the end of Kate’s treatment, and while the message was hopeful and celebratory, she described her path to ‘healing and full recovery’ as ‘long’.

As a result, the source claimed that William is keenly aware of how much Kate has juggled this year, both mentally and physically.

The source continued: “This has been a tough year for Kate and Wills and a complete emotional rollercoaster. He’s confided to friends that everything has been thrown in their path, but he is proud of how they have weathered the storm.

“However, he has watched on as Kate has had to operate on autopilot this year to put on a normal show for the children and to get by - so an MOT for the soul is much needed for them both to reconnect.”

And while the family spent this Christmas at Anmer Hall, their home close to a secluded beach in Norfolk, the insider revealed how Africa could be just the place for William and Kate to unwind as a couple.

I know the real reason Prince William and Kate took so long to get married

While Kate and William married at Westminster Abbey in April 2011 and honeymooned in the Seychelles, the breathtaking scenery of the Kenyan mountains holds a special place in both of their hearts.

The picturesque African spot was the backdrop of William’s proposal to Kate in a wildlife hut back in 2010.

Whilst staying at the 55,000 acre Lewa Private Estate, William flew Kate high up the slopes of Mount Kenya to propose on the shores of one of the mountain's stunning glacial lakes.

The country was also a favourite of his mother, Princess Diana’s, and holds a connection to his grandmother, the late Queen, as the place she first heard the news of her ascension to the throne in 1952.

Inside Prince William and Kate Middleton's relationship - in their words

AFTER years of dating, Prince William and Kate Middleton announced their engagement on November 16, 2010.

Prince William revealed in their interview with BBC that he knew from the start that Kate was different from other people.

He said in their engagement interview: "From my point of view, when I first met Kate, I knew there was something very special about her.”

When asked what drew them together, it turns out her “naughty sense of humour” was the tipping point.

He said: “She’s got a really naughty sense of humour, which really helps me because I’ve got a really dirty sense of humour so it was good fun, we had a really good laugh, and then things happened.”

And it appears that Prince William is a very caring partner towards Kate. Swoon.

She previously told Hello! how much of a gentleman William is, and said: "You know, over the years William has looked after me, he's treated me very well — as the loving boyfriend he is, he is very supportive of me through the good times and also through the bad times.”

In April 2011, Prince William and Kate Middleton tied the knot at Westminster Abbey in a ceremony watched around the world by millions of fans.

Kate wore a spectacular Alexander McQueen dress and the smitten prince could be seen telling Kate: “You look beautiful” before the service began.

They may have an unconventional life, but when it comes to their relationship, it all boils down to having fun.

Prince William added: “Obviously we both have a very fun time together, both have a very good sense of humour about things, we're down to earth, we take the mickey out of each other a lot, and she's got plenty of habits that make me laugh that I tease her about."

Subsequently, the source recognised: “They want to go somewhere secluded - Wills has employed a trusted family friend in assisting with this very special private getaway to a place of extreme importance – Africa and the wildlife reserves are a love for them both.

"To have their wedding blessed there after 14 years would be really special.”

While the rift between the Royal Family and Meghan Markle and Prince Harry only appears to be deepening, and Prince Andrew appears to be staying away, the source claimed that William and Kate are instead focusing on all they have to be thankful for.

The insider concluded: “They have both taken this year fully in their stride but it has been incredibly hard.
