They were given a platinum plus grading — just missing out on a top of the bogs “diamond” rating.

Loo awards sources told The Sun that Charles had been interested in the competition and encouraged the Norfolk estate to enter for the first time.

Sandringham’s washroom technician Ann Bleser was highly commended for her work at the awards ceremony on Wednesday night in Solihull, West Mids.

Loo of the Year Awards manager Jane Kibble said: “Only around two per cent of loos get ‘diamond’ and Sandringham were close.

“They attended and have been told what they need to do to get to that level.

“Somebody had done their homework from the estate because they did very well with the criteria — with such things as low-level wash basins and low-level toilets and plants.

“It certainly had the wow factor.”

The annual contest sees inspectors judge toilets against 100 criteria.
