MIX one of these faux glow formulas into your moisturiser for an effortless healthy way to tan
While it’s tempting to bask in the sun for a little colour, we know how damaging UV rays are and how they speed up the ageing process.
Luckily, advancements in sunless tanning mean if we stay out of the sun we no longer have to forgo a natural-looking, sun-kissed glow.
Never have there been so many options when it comes to fake tan on the virtual beauty shelves. Next-generation formulas are a world away from the one-bottle-suits-all tangerine tones we once slathered on.
Whether you’re after an instant quick-fix golden glow or a more gradual, long-lasting sun-kissed effect, you’ll find the perfect at-home bronzing partner out there.
You don’t even need to change up your existing skincare routine anymore, with fake tanning drops flooding the beauty space for the easiest way to fake a faux glow yet.
Designed to be dropped into the palm of your hand and mixed with your favourite day or night cream, they couldn’t be simpler to use. Just don’t forget to apply evenly and wash your hands after use.
It’s not just ease-of-use that makes them a standout fake tanning option. Tanning drops give you a customisable glow. The more you add the darker you’ll go, so you can tailor-make your tan.
Of course, it’s not that straightforward to find the best fake tanning drops for you, your needs and your budget when there are so many available. So, we’ve done the hard work for you. Your next golden wonder awaits…

Isle of Paradise Face Self-Tanning Drops
Pros: Long-lasting, 3 shades, passes for a real tan
Cons: None
Rating: 5/5
To be honest, this isn’t my first bottle of Isle of Paradise tanning drops. From giving life to my pasty complexion in the dead of winter to dialling up the faux glow in the heights of summer, I’ve been using these drops on and off for a few years now because they are hard to beat.
My fair skin gets on best with the light drops, but there are also medium and dark options for those with more colour to their skin and body drops that are equally as brilliant.
What makes these tan drops such a stand-out is they create a believable hue no matter how many drops you add. I like to use just 4 drops to create a gradual touched-by-the-sun effect that is ideal for every day, but for days when I want more of a golden hue, I mix in 10 drops (as seen in the picture).
The faux tan it creates is one of the best I’ve tested for longevity, although the brand promises five days, I found reapplying every three days works best to keep a continuous glow going. Additionally, it always stays even looking and doesn’t fade in patches like some of fake tan formulas.
What’s more, it’s been infused with one of the buzziest skincare ingredients of all time. Vitamin C has been backed by science to visibly brighten skin, and with ongoing use, I really do notice it perking up my dull complexion.
I can’t even complain about its smell, as the brand’s signature scent is so fresh and appealing.

Tan-Luxe The Face Illuminating Self-Tan Drops
Pros: Lovely fragrance, boosted with skincare, 2 shades
Cons: Expensive
Rating: 5/5
Tan-Luxe is the brand that’s mastered creating a tailor-made faux tan, and in the interest of fairness, I already knew that this product ticks all the boxes when it comes to performance as I’ve been using it for years.
If you’ve been put off fake tan due to its biscuity smell, this is the one for you. The first thing you notice is that the typical strange smell has been replaced by a gorgeous fruity-floral fragrance.
Another big plus point, is they’ve been infused with nourishing ingredients like vitamin E and aloe vera, so there’s no chance of drying the skin out. I always find they leave my dry skin, super soft and smooth.
I find you can’t go wrong with these drops. Two drops add a slight radiance to the skin, perfect for no make-up days whereas eight gives a natural golden glow (pictured) and 12 is for a more sun-baked look when you’re looking for more glamour.
The colour itself is even, non-sticky and doesn’t darken or go orange in places when you layer. It’s everything a first-rate self-tan should be, so you can believe its viral hype with this one.
