Mamas and Papas Airo pushchair review: Quick summary

  • Airo pushchair, £399 on Mamas and Papas —

The baby brand has launched what it says is its most "portable pushchair" to date with the Airo. The sequel to the award-winning Ocarro, the pram packs up tight and can be carried on your back, making it a great option for road trips, plane journeys or just venturing into town to your favourite coffee place.

The pram is suitable from birth with its multi-recline seat positioning and parents can purchase a travel set at an additional cost including a carry cot, cup holder and foot muff. The bumper bar and foot rest can also be adjusted, with an extendable hood covering the baby to protect them from rain or shine.

The pram also comes with straps so once folded down, you can carry it like a backpack.

It's available in five colours, with prices starting at £399.

Finding a truly portable pushchair is a real challenge for parents, so imagine our surprise when presented with the Airo—the most portable pushchair created by Mamas and Papas.

The slick design definitely gives the air of the urban lifestyle—where parents need easy-to-use pushchairs to get onto buses, trams and trains. The Airo folds down nice and easy and can potentially be done with one hand. We could fit the pushchair into the boot of a small car.

However, we wouldn't suggest anyone with back problems trying to carry the pram on their back—even though it's lightweight, it still felt heavy and uncomfortable to carry for a long time. It is good for those quick transitions, though, such as going into the house. The pram also packs up tight so you can store it away and not take up precious space in your home.

The handlebars can be adjusted to suit any height and are easy enough to push around. We did also try the universal cup holder on the pram, walking around our local city, but it didn't cope well with the cobbled streets—the brand does advise against having full or hot drinks in the cup holder.

The Airo is definitely one for the city and not rural life—because of its slick design, it makes it unsuitable for anything requiring suspension. But it does make it perfect for road trips and as additional luggage for plane journeys.

The pram comes in five different colours: Black, grey, mint, grapefruit and the special edition "Rose Gold Dusk". The fabrics are machine washable so no need to worry about inevitable stains.

For the basic Airo pushchair, prices start at £399. For additional items such as coordinating accessories and newborn bundles, there is an additional cost. You purchase the Airo both in-store and

Mamas and Papas Airo pushchair: The verdict

A great purchase if you need a pram to get you from a to b and for long-haul journeys. The price is lower than other prams on the market—including additional bits—making it a cost-effective product if you use from birth through to the toddler years.

However, it is not for those who need a pram that does everything. If you love your country walks in the rain, running with your mum-friends or hiking up steep hills, this is not the pushchair for you.
