Redken shampoo review: will this give you super soft hair?

WHEN I saw Redken’s All Soft Shampoo was formulated for dry and brittle hair my head was turned.

This cold weather, added to my already fragile hair, has left my strands screaming for a boost of hydration.

Redken shampoo review: full review

Redken is well known for its scientific approach, placing a lot of focus on balancing the pH of your hair.

It sticks to an acidic pH of between 3.0 and 4.0 to help seal the hair’s cuticle, creating stronger bonds and smoother-looking locks.

And it does make a difference. Or at least, I noticed after one wash that my hair was smoother and softer.

The hydration that this shampoo promises delivers using an interesting mix of ingredients. Avocado oil is in there for hydration, the trusty kitchen staple olive oil works to condition and silk amino acids replace lost protein for stronger strands.

I had high hopes for this shampoo having tried Redken products before and it didn’t disappoint.

It came in a 300ml bottle with a top that clicks open with a quick push, ready to be dispensed into my hand, although I was caught out by squeezing the bottle, which meant I got a lot more product than I bargained for (it will trickle out of its own accord).

It’s a fairly normal consistency for a shampoo, and comes out easily, ready to be massaged into the hair. Like the bottle, the shampoo itself is a honey golden colour which feels oddly satisfying going onto to darker hair like mine.

So many shampoos out there feel like they’re targeted towards coloured or blonde tones and the less sterile colours of toffee felt inviting and inclusive.

I found that it lathered nicely, something I personally like in a shampoo, and was easy to rinse out, meaning no residual product on my scalp.

My hair felt clean and fresh straight after I’d washed it and, best of all, it immediately felt soft.

Even after a couple of days it still felt soft and hydrated, living up to the promise of quenching dry and brittle strands.

I’m not a huge fan of overly-fragrant shampoos so, for me, the subtlety of the scent was a winner.

The smell reminded me of having my hair washed in salon or, in a more abstract way, like freshly laundered sheets – a blank slate where my hair was refreshed, quietly confident in its cleanliness.

If there’s one gripe I have with this product it’s that it doesn’t last long enough – my bottle was empty after no time at all.

It falls in the middle of the cheap to expensive bracket, costing £18, although it’s currently going for £15.30 on LookFantastic.

Redken shampoo review: the verdict

This Redken shampoo does the trick when it comes to feeling an immediate change in the quality of your hair – I really did notice a difference after one wash.

So if you’re also finding the cold weather is wreaking havoc with your hair, give All Soft a go. It really does what it says on the tin.
