Conor McGregor tipped to return to boxing in next ’12-18 months for something big’ by coach John Kavanagh
CONOR MCGREGOR will return to boxing within 18 months, according to the UFC star’s coach John Kavanagh.
“Notorious” famously swapped the Octagon for the ring back in 2017 in a losing effort against Floyd Mayweather.
Despite the setback, the Irishman pocketed around £100million from the lucrative affair, and now he has “something big” between the ropes again.
Kavanagh told : “I'd honestly be surprised if Conor doesn't have a boxing match in the next 12-18 months.
“He loves boxing. He loved the training for the Mayweather fight. It has to be something big, whatever he does seems to always get bigger. He's always looking for that next step up.”
McGregor began training in the Crumlin Boxing Gym before switching to MMA, going on to become UFC’s most famous star.
After his defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in October 2018, the 31-year-old produced an explosive performance on his return to the cage on January 18.
His 40 second demolition of Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in Las Vegas instantly led to calls for a rematch with Khabib.
But Kavanagh thinks Justin Gaethje would be a good fit for Mcgregor’s next fight.

He added: “At the moment, definitely top of the list for me would be Justin Gaethje. I think it is a very interesting, stylistic match-up.
“Justin really believes in his striking ability, really believes in his power. He also has a quick-ish stop of Cerrone.
“I think there would be some great exchanges, a lot of forward pressure from Gaethje and Conor thrives under that so in the summer or something like that, that's what I'd love to see.
“We know Gaethje won't take a back step and Conor will meet him in the middle, it would be fireworks.”
