Liverpool sign Bayern Munich’s top fitness coach
Andreas Kornmayer will move to Anfield in the summer
Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp revolution is to continue with the appointment of Bayern Munich’s top fitness brain Andreas Kornmayer.
The 41-year-old German has risen through the ranks of his boyhood club and played a pivotal role in keeping Bayern player’s in superb condition.
The sports-science boffin began working with Bayern’s youth team in 2004 and has worked his way up through the ranks before promotion to first-team duties in 2010.
The coach has worked under some of this era’s most successful managers like Louis van Gaal, Jupp Heynckes and current Bayern boss Pep Guardiola and impressed them all.
Liverpool have been hit by a raft of serious injury problems since Klopp arrived, with Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson two of a number of victims.
Klopp even specifically mentioned the super-human fitness levels the Bundesliga side was operating at in 2013 when, under Heynckes, they won the Treble.
The Anfield boss said: “The 2013 treble-winning team of Bayern was unbelievably strong and they had all their players fit until the end.”
Current conditioning coach Ryland Morgans – who was appointed by Brendan Rodgers – announced last month he was leaving the Merseyside club.
