Ex-Chelsea star Andre Schurrle dumped by Dortmund and available on free transfer despite having year left on deal
ANDRE SCHURRLE has been axed by Borussia Dortmund despite having a year left on his contract.
The ex-Chelsea star will now be available on a free transfer after he and the Bundesliga side mutually agreed to terminate his deal.
The winger has failed to live up to expectations at the German club since his £27million move from Wolfsburg in 2016.
Dortmund dropped their asking price to just £2m last week but have now gone one step further and cut their losses completely.
A Dortmund spokesman said: "Borussia Dortmund and Andre Schurrle - who was recently loaned to Spartak Moscow - have mutually agreed to cancel his contract that was valid until 2021.

"As a result the 2014 World Cup winner will no longer take part when Borussia's pre-season training begins on July 30."
Schurrle added: "I look back on a time of highs and lows with the club.
"But I've also had many valuable experiences, both as a player and above all personally.
"I thank the people in charge of Borussia, and wish the club and their unique fans all the best for the future."
The German international, 29, helped Chelsea win the 2014-15 title but left for Wolfsburg in the middle of that season.

After 13 goals and ten assists in 63 appearances for Wolfsburg, Dortmund broke the bank to sign Schurrle in 2016, but he failed to live up to expectations.
He spent the 2018-19 season on loan at Fulham and had just rejoined Dortmund after another campaign on loan - this time at Spartak Moscow.
However Schurrle was not part of Dortmund coach Lucien Favre's plans for next season and they have moved swiftly to get his £6m-a-year wages off the books.

Italian minnows Benevento have just been promoted to Serie A and have already been linked with the 57 cap German international.
But they would struggle to afford his salary - whereas a smaller Premier League club may be tempted to take a chance on him now they do not have to pay a transfer fee.
Schurrle could yet make a second return to West London, with both Fulham and Brentford vying for a place in next season's top flight.
