MAN OF THE MAX

Newcastle 3 Burnley 1: Callum Wilson double and super Allan Saint-Maximin display seals three points for Toon

ALLAN SAINT-MAXIMIN and Callum Wilson could rival Ant and Dec for the Toon's favourite double act after their matchwinning heroics against Burnley.

Saint-Maximin bagged a goal and an assist for Wilson in a powerful man of the match display on his return from injury - until he hobbled off AGAIN with just under 20 minutes to go.

Wilson had assisted Saint-Maximin's opener and the Frenchman returned the favour to set him up with a tap in four minutes after Ashley Westwood had equalised in the second-half.

Wilson then secured a brace and all three points with a cheeky dink from the penalty spot after Nick Pope brought down Saint-Maximin's replacement Ryan Fraser.

Saint-Maximin got the party underway after he cut in and out to fashion an opening with six Burnley players around him just 14 minutes into the first half.

Moving the ball onto his right peg, the 23-year-old winger unleashed a stinging effort that England hopeful Pope could not keep out.

It capped a masterful first-half performance from the former Nice player with Sean Dyche's Clarets putting in a number of fouls in their desperate bid to stop his progress.

Burnley roared back into life after the break, dominating proceedings for the first 20 minutes after the interval.

And stand-in skipper Westwood helped convert their superiority by slamming home an equaliser after 61 minutes.

But Saint-Maximin rose to the fore again just four minutes later, skipping past defenders to slide a gorgeous ball across the box leaving Wilson the easiest of tap-ins to restore Newcastle's lead.

And it went from bad to worse for Burnley when Three Lions back-up Pope gave away a penalty by taking out sub Fraser.

Wilson calmly chipped his pen down the middle to make it four goals from four shots on target in four Prem games - since joining from relegated Bournemouth.
