The 22-year-old struggled for form and fitness last season, making only 22 Premier League appearances and scoring a single goal before suffering a knee injury in February that ended his hopes of making England's squad.

But he has put that all behind him by joining mates, including Gunners team-mate Carl Jenkinson, on a US road trip that has included pit stops in Las Vegas and San Francisco.

Jenkinson is also recovering from a knee injury that led to his loan deal at West Ham ending early.

The full-back had cruciate surgery in February after suffering the injury conceding a penalty for the Hammers against Manchester City.

Both players are hoping to be fit in time for the 2016/17 campaign.
