Gotze suffered an injury-ravaged season with Bayern Munich last year and was restricted to the substitutes’ bench during the run-in, with the 24-year-old seemingly out of favour with former boss Pep Guardiola.

He has been linked with a move back to Dortmund – where he won two Bundesliga titles under Klopp – and with a move to Anfield.

But now Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keen to continue his summer spending after landing Granit Xhaka for £30million from Borussia Monchengladbach.

But whether Gotze moves to the Emirates and links up with compatriot Mesut Ozil in the Gunners’ attack remains to be see.

He recently revealed that he wanted to stay with Bayern and make a fresh start under incoming boss Carlo Ancelotti.

Gotze said: “I look forward to the new season in Munich and will do everything possible to be in top shape for my first training session under Carlo Ancelotti.”

But Bayern chief, former German star Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, believes Gotze’s future is looking bleak and should 'evaluate' his position at the club.

He said: “He knows what the club thinks and what the new coach thinks. Mario has to evaluate for himself whether he wants to play constantly.”
