THREE-TIME world champion surfer Mick Fanning has faced his fears, and returned to the scene of his horrific shark attack last year.
The Australian Fanning made the headlines at last year's J-Bay Open when he was attacked live on television by a great white shark (watch video below).
But instead of shying away, Fanning has showed up early for the J-Bay Open in South Africa, which he will be competing in, to do some freesurfing.
Speaking of his decision to return to Jeffreys Bay, Fanning said: "Even if I didn’t come back and do the event, I was always going to come back and surf. A little bit of anxiety came up, a few different emotions. Once I got the wetsuit on, got the board ready, and paddled out, it was pretty much fine.

"Once you catch that first wave, you realise that it was just a one-off incident…hopefully. Then you just get on with it and go surfing again."
