Wimbledon 2016: Domenika Cibulkova will get married on Saturday after defeat to Elena Visnena
Cibulkova lost to opponent 32 places below her 6-2 6-2 in a very quick 77 minutes
DOMINIKA CIBULKOVA will get married after all as her relationship with this year’s Wimbledon ended in a painful divorce.
The Slovakian was ready to postpone her wedding – arranged for the same day as the women’s final – if she beat Elena Vesnina in her last-eight tie.
But Cibulkova is now free to walk down the aisle on Saturday after she was walked all over by her Russian rival, going down 6-2 6-2 in just 77 minutes.
The No19 seed, 27, said: “I just lost in the quarter-finals so there are a lot of emotions going around.
“I will need a few hours to just think about everything.
“But then I will realise that I had a great grass-court season and I can finally start to think about the wedding.
“It can go ahead now and I am really looking forward to it. Everything is ready.
“There won’t be any mixed feelings. If I was still here, I would just think about tennis hundred percent.
“But I will get married now hundred percent, not thinking about tennis.”
Cibulkova was broken twice in each set by Vesnina, 29, who is ranked 32 places below her.
And she admits she was still exhausted from Monday’s three-hour epic victory over third seed Agnieszka Radwanska.
Cibulkova added: “That match took it out of me, not only physically, but also emotionally.
“So I felt a little bit flat. That was the biggest issue.”
Unseeed Vesnina, who had never previously gone past the last 16 in a Grand Slam, will now play reigning champion Serena Williams in Thursday’s semi-final.
And she has no plans for the weekend, as she smiled: “I had my wedding last year, so I’m good!
“I told Dominika, ‘You must enjoy the day – I’m waiting to see a lot of pictures from you’.”
Vesnina then added: “It’s a dream semi-final. Nothing can be better than playing against Serena in the semi-final on Centre Court. It’s special.
“It will be a big challenge for me, but I hope I can accept this challenge.”
