Wimbledon 2016: Tomas Berdych turfs out Lucas Pouille to set up a semi-final with Andy Murray
Czech ace came through 7-6 6-3 6-2 against Frenchman Pouille to book his place in the SW19 last-four against world No2
TOMAS BERDYCH turfed out Lucas Pouille to set up a semi-final showdown with Andy Murray.
Berdych, 30, came through 7-6 6-3 6-2 against Frenchman Pouille, who only won his first ever tour-level match on grass at this year’s Wimbledon.
No10 seed Berdych negotiated a 55-minute first set 7-4 on a tie-break, before easily outclassing his rookie opponent in the second and third.
The 2010 SW19 finalist did not even have to pull out his best tennis, as 22-year-old Pouille crumbled on the major points.
Berdych will now play Murray in the last four on Friday, following the British No1’s victory over Pouille’s compatriot Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
The Czech has a decent record against Muzza, winning six of their 14 clashes – although his last victory against the world No2 came three years ago at the Cincinnati Masters.
While Murray has blitzed their last three meetings, including a 6-3 6-2 breeze in Madrid earlier this year.
