Wimbledon 2016: Jamie Murray and doubles partner Bruno Soares out after defeat to Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger-Vasselin
Murray and Brazilian partner force fifth set after battling back from two sets down but lose four hour epic
JAMIE MURRAY'S dream of Wimbledon glory is over after a dramatic defeat in the men’s doubles quarter-final.
Brit Murray - brother of Andy - and his Brazilian partner Bruno Soares came from two sets down to force a decider against French duo Julien Benneteau and Eduoard Roger-Vasselin.
But the No3 seeds eventually went down 6-4 6-4 6-7 6-7 10-8 in an epic on Court 18, which lasted four hours and 31 minutes.
Murray said after: "They hardly missed a shot the first three sets and we just kept fighting and fighting and managed to somehow win that third-set tie-break.
"It’s a shame to lose after putting in that much effort to get back into the match and turn around in the way that we did."
Murray, who is ranked the No1 men's doubles player in the world, and Soares were well fancied coming into SW19 having won the Australian Open earlier this year.
