  • REQUEST DENIED

Uefa have turned down a request from the mayor of Munich, Dieter Reiter, for the Allianz Arena to be lit up in rainbow colours for Germany’s Euro 2020 clash against Hungary.

The mayor wanted to light the stadium up in rainbow colours in protest against a new law in Hungary.

The law bans teachings in schools promoting homosexuality and gender change.

Therefore, on a political basis, the request was denied, and proposals for alternative dates in which the stadium can be lit up in rainbow colours have been made.

Croatia need to beat Scotland tonight to stand a chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of Euro 2020.

  • JACK 'N THRILL

Jose Mourinho has called on England manager Gareth Southgate to start Jack Grealish.

In an exclusive with The Sun, Mourinho said: "England look like a shy team, so they need Jack Grealish against the Czech Republic tonight.

"He looks like he has always been on that stage.

"The guy is brave. The guy never played a European match for his club but he arrives in the national team and  is fearless.

"He risks. He gambles. He loses the ball. He creates. He kicks people. People kick him. He creates instability in opponents.

    "And he wins free-kicks.

"You win free-kicks in wide areas then you go with Harry Maguire or Tyrone Mings or John Stones and Harry Kane — and England are powerful on set-pieces.

"England looked a shy team against Scotland because they were a team without that thing that Grealish has.

"I don’t like comparing players — and Luis Figo was at a different level — but Grealish is like Figo in that he’ll demand the ball.

  • TEAM GUIDE: SCOTLAND

Scotland will be without Billy Gilmour after he tested positive for Covid-19.

  • CZECH MATE

West Ham's Declan Rice will collide with club team-mates Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal when England host the Czech Republic tonight.

Rice and Soucek have formed a formidable partnership for West Ham in the heart of their midfield.

The England international, Rice, sits and protects the back four or five depending on David Moyes' set-up.

And Soucek gets forward into the opposition penalty area and wreaks havoc.

The towering Czech midfielder scored an impressive ten non-penalty league goals from defensive midfield last season, helping West Ham qualify for the Europa League.

To put that into context, that's more non-penalty goals than Man Utd's Bruno Fernandes (9).

Coufal also had a fine campaign for West Ham, proving hard to beat in defence and chipped in with seven assists in the league.

The right-back also provided the assist for Patrik Schick's opener against Scotland.

The Czech pair have a message for their team-mate Rice!

  • TEAM NEWS: CROATIA VS SCOTLAND

Croatia are waiting to see if Rangers’ left-back Borna Barisic will be available after missing his side’s first two games due to a back injury, writes SANDRA BROBBEY.

Meanwhile it is thought Scotland could look to bring Scott McTominay back into midfield to replace Gilmour and draft Liam Cooper or Jack Hendry in defence.

Other midfield options include Stuart Armstrong who put in a decent shift against England alongside Che Adams after coming on as a second-half sub.

And Croatia’s Mateo Kovacic, Dejan Lovren, Marcelo Brozovic, and Duje Caleta-Car could also miss out on a last-16 clash if they pick up cautions.

Scotland duo McGinn and O'Donnell (Scotland) will be suspended if they are booked.

  • TEAM NEWS: ENGLAND VS CZECH REPUBLIC

Czech Republic don't have any injury concerns to worry about and will come into the game fresh, ready and raring to go.

Patrik Schick is set to start again while Alex Kral could play in midfield for the Czechs.

Jack Grealish may finally get his start for England but don't be surprised to see Gareth Southgate stick with the same front four.

Jordan Henderson and Harry Maguire could also feature for the Three Lions, having both recovered from injury.

  • CLASSY

Netherlands captain Gini Wijnaldum presented Goran Pandev with a personalised shirt to commemorate his 122nd and final match for his country.

  • GREAT DANES

Christian Eriksen congratulated his Denmark team-mates after Andreas Christensen's stunner fired them into the last-16 of Euro 2020 in a thrilling Group B finale, writes IAN TUCKEY.

The Danes erupted into scenes worthy of winning a final after deservedly edging through on goal difference - level on three points with Russia and Finland - after the torment of Christian Eriksen suffering a cardiac arrest in their tournament opener.

They will now face Wales in Amsterdam on Saturday evening.

Chelsea's Andreas Christensen scored the Goal of the Round last night.

The defender connected well with the ball, sending a venomous strike right past the Russian goalkeeper.

  • STAYING PUT

There's no plan to move the semi-finals and final away from Wembley.

Uefa confirmed on Friday that there was no plan to stake the last two rounds of Euro 2020 away from the English capital.

Despite Italian prime minister Mario Draghi calling for the final to be moved due to rising Covid cases, Uefa remain committed to Wembley hosting the last three games.

A Uefa spokesperson, as seen on the Evening Standard, said: ";Uefa, the English FA and the English authorities are working closely together successfully to stage the semi-finals and final of EURO in Wembley and there are no plans to change the venue for those games."

  • PHILLIPS SHOULDN'T BE DROPPED

Kalvin Phillips shouldn't be dropped for tonight' game, claims former Leeds defender Danny Mills.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, he said: "We are seeing what normally happens in a championship.

"Very rarely does a team go all the way through winning every single game, being absolutely exceptional from start to finish.

"There are no really poor teams any more in these Championships, everybody has a fighting chance and if they perform and if they play well as Scotland did then on any given day they can give anybody a really good game.

"Scotland were maybe ten or 15 per cent above their usual, England were ten or 15 per cent below and of course you get a 30 per cent swing and that's the problem.

"Long term it's not a huge problem for England.

"Yes, I am sure there will be tweaks and they will try and address the situation but you can't go from Kalvin Phillips being absolutely outstanding against Croatia to suddenly why is he playing, why is he being picked?

"There's just no rhyme or reason for that at all."

  • KANE TO START

Harry Kane is set to keep his place in Gareth Southgate's England team tonight, despite not scoring in the opening two group games.

England will be looking to finish the group strong after the disappointing draw against Scotland at Wembley last Friday.

Manager Southgate has hinted at making some changes for tonight's game, but Kane is set to keep his place.

The superstar, who finished top of the goals AND assist charts in the Premier League, is yet to open his Euro 2020 account.

Maybe tonight will be the night!

We'll be covering it here at SunSport if you can't watch the game, so keep an eye out.

  • IT'S COMING HOME

England have qualified for the knockout stages of Euro 2020 with a game to spare.

Yesterday's results, which saw Austria beat Ukraine, the Netherlands beat North Macedonia, Denmark thump Russia and Belgium beat Finland, means England will go through no matter what.

In either first, second or third place in Group D.

  • GOOD MORNING FOOTBALL FANS

England have been confirmed as qualifying to Euro 2020’s Round of 16, with a game to spare.

Results on Sunday and Monday evening, with each group playing out their final fixture, mean that a tally of four points is now definitely enough for any nation to progress to the knockout phase.

Therefore, the Three Lions’ win against Croatia and draw with Scotland are enough for Gareth Southgate’s men to advance no matter what happens with the Czech Republic.

The two teams are going to square off at Wembley Stadium today.

However, England will have to wait to find out whether Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell will be available for this crucial clash.

According to Sky Sports, Mount and Chilwell have gone into self-isolation as a precaution following their interaction with Scotland's Billy Gilmour, who has tested positive for coronavirus.

The Three Lions duo embraced and spoke to Gilmour following Friday’s draw at Wembley.

The Chelsea players – along with the rest of Southgate’s squad – have returned negative COVID-19 tests, but it remains unclear whether the duo will be available to play against the Czechs.

But Scotland will definitely be without Gilmour after his Man of the Match performance against England at Wembley.

The midfielder will have to self-isolate for 10 days, ultimately missing the crucial Group D match against Croatia.

  • NOW OR NEVER

Manchester United legend Gary Neville insists it is “now or never” for Harry Maguire as he can’t expect him to return to England’s starting line-up in the knockout stages when the difficulty level picks up after his injury.

Neville told Sky Sports: “My concern was [against Scotland] that it wasn’t just the Harry Kane thing – the rest of them lacked sharpness. Even when [Jack] Grealish and [Marcus] Rashford came on, the performance didn’t change.

“For me, going into the Czech Republic game – understanding that I have played with England teams in tournaments that looked fatigued – that is the only thing that I’m looking at in the first five, 10 minutes.

‘”Is the sharpness back, and was it just a mental thing going into that Scotland game? Now’s the time for some continuity – we need to start settling on a team. That might mean that Harry Maguire comes back in.

“If he doesn’t play tomorrow against the Czech Republic, I don’t know how he can come in against a France or a Portugal in round two. It’s now or never for Maguire”

  • CLARKE ON GILMOUR

Scotland boss Steve Clarke has confirmed Chelsea ace Billy Gilmour is asymptomatic after testing positive for coronavirus but admits he is still “upset”.

Clarke said: “He’s upset, as you would expect.

“He has no symptoms, hopefully his health will hold up.

“Billy would have started the game and now he won’t so it’s a chance for someone else to come into the team and make themselves a national hero”

  • DEMBELE OUT

Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele will miss the rest of Euro 2020 for France due to a knee injury.

Dembele came on as a second-half substitute during the Tricolores' shock 1-1 draw with Hungary on Saturday but had to be substituted just 30 minutes later.

The French Football Federation said: "Ousmane Dembele had an X-ray at the Budapest hospital on Sunday night.

"The recovery time is incompatible with him staying in the squad"

  • FA REACTION

The FA confirmed the news that England aces Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount are self-isolating after coming in contact with Scotland’s Billy Gilmour.

A statement from the FA read: “As a precaution at this time and in consultation with Public Health England, Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount are isolating after interaction with Scotland player Billy Gilmour at Friday’s match.

“The pair will be kept away from the rest of the England players and wider support team, pending further discussions with PHE. The entire squad had lateral flow tests on Monday afternoon and all were again negative, as was the case with Sunday’s UEFA pre-match PCR tests.

“We will continue to follow all Covid-19 protocols and the UEFA testing regime, while remaining in close contact with PHE”
