Samir Nasri is first player in Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City ‘fat camp’ as boss reveals midfielder reported back to pre-season overweight
Star has not featured in two friendlies so far under new manager after piling on the pounds over the summer
PEP GUARDIOLA has revealed reported back for pre-season carrying too much weight.
said earlier this week how the new Manchester City chief has introduced a ‘fat camp’ at the Etihad this summer.
And Guardiola explained how he wanted his players to be in tip-top shape — and would not tolerate anything less.
Nasri, 29, has not featured in City’s two friendlies under the Spaniard so far — and Guardiola says it is because he has piled on the pounds over the summer.
The City boss said: “He arrived a little bit overweight. He’s much better now but he is still a little bit overweight.
“Last season he was overweight and he was injured all season, so we want to avoid that.
“The players that are on the pitch they are fit, their weight is in the right place to arrive at many minutes like Tosin today or like or like and all the other ones.
“But hopefully in the next two weeks he will be right with us.”
Reports in Africa also suggested that 19-year-old had fallen foul of Guardiola’s strict rules on weight.
But the Nigerian striker played in Shenzhen yesterday as City drew 1-1 against Borussia Dortmund before winning on penalties.
