WEST Ham are set to launch a fresh bid for Jess Lingard following his stellar loan spell last season.

The Irons could face a struggle to land the Manchester United forward, 28, as they want to pay less than the Old Trafford giant's asking price.

Lingard enjoyed a standout half-season with the London Stadium outfit, notching up nine goals and five assists in 16 appearances following a January move.

And the player, who is isolating after testing positive for Covid-19, has reportedly been listed as a West Ham player for the 2021-22 season on the Prem's official website

The £25million-rated England ace, who returned to Old Trafford in May, helped the Hammers finish sixth in the league last term above London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham.

And United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is thought to see the attacking midfield star as being a 'big part' of his plans for the Red Devils this term.

However, West Ham assistant manager Stuart Pearce says his club are keen on bringing the forward back to London.

David Moyes' team, who face Leicester next, are competing in the Europa League this term.

Pearce told talkSPORT: “He was wonderful last year. We would like him to come and join us.

“That has been an open secret. The ball is in Manchester United’s court.

“He is contracted to them. We would like him with us, there is no doubt about that.

“He’s a special lad and was very good around the players, (who) like him.”

Lingard, who started out as a player in Man United’s youth academy at the age of seven, has a contract with the club that runs out in June 2022.

And the Old Trafford star has netted 33 goals in 210 senior appearances for the side, winning three trophies including an FA Cup, a league cup and a Europa League title between 2016 and 2017.

However, the Three Lions star, who was a regular starter for United between 2015 and 2019, fell down the club's pecking order in the first half of last season.

And the team’s acquisition of Jadon Sancho could see Lingard face a battle to secure a starting spot in United’s front line with Marcus Rashford yet to return to fitness following a shoulder injury.

With a forward rank that also includes Edison Cavani, Anthony Martial and the in-form Mason Greenwood, competition for a starting spot is likely to be stiff.
